After a year dedicated to setting up the research programme, 2 of the 8 OneWater Targeted Projects were launch at the end of 2023. Now it’s time for the PC6-OneWater Data and PC5-Aquatheque teams to get on with research!

Launch of the OneWater Data project (PC8), September 2023

One of the 8 OneWater Targeted Projects was launched on 13 and 14 September 2023: OneWater Data. This project aims to promote access to and sharing of water data produced within the programme and more widely by other organisations, and should contribute to the issues raised by OneWater Challenge 6, via interoperable means of acquisition and exchange (FAIR Data). Informed decision-making must be based on shared data and scientific knowledge that is accessible to a wide range of stakeholders.

Sylvain Grellet, FAIR data/interoperability expert at BRGM, is coordinating this Targeted Project (PC) in interaction with the other OneWater projects.

Launch of the Aquatheque project (PC5), November 2023

The Aquatheque Project (PC5) – launched on 9 and 10 November – seeks to develop methods and procedures for collecting, archiving, preserving and making available water samples and their analyses, for the various stakeholders involved in the water sector and for future generations.

How do existing banking system work, and how can we draw inspiration from them to propose an aquatheque model tailored the needs and specific characteristics of our regions? What are the social and legal issues that need to be considered when setting up an aquatheque? These are some of the questions that began to emerge during the kick-off and which PC5 will endeavour to answer.

Laurent Simon, lecturer in aquatic ecology, affiliated to the Laboratory of Ecology of Natural and Anthropised Hydrosystems – LEHNA, and Emmanuelle Vulliet, CNRS research director, affiliated to the Institute of Analytical Sciences, are coordinating this targeted project.
