In a context of rapid development of satellite-based tools, particularly for studying rivers and freshwater systems, the national programme OneWater – Eau Bien Commun presents a collective note examining these new tools, their strengths and limitations, and the need to articulate them with field-based research.

This note highlights a key point: satellite data are essential for observing socio-hydrosystems in certain territories, but they cannot replace the need for combined approaches involving field measurements and on-the-ground investigations.
